It’s not difficult to conjure romance in Cambridge, with its attractive Victorian mansions and labyrinthine brick sidewalks. But for a perfect date night, don’t leave anything to chance.

Visitors and locals alike will love our six favorite date spots in Cambridge for a day or night out with your sweetheart—a diverse mix of fun things to do and upscale places to drink and dine.

Take Juliet, for example: this newcomer to the Somerville dining scene will impress your date without feeling stuffy or forced. While the restaurant serves an excellent, European-inspired prix fixe menu for dinner, you won’t regret coming here in the morning or breakfast for the chef’s celebrated egg dishes.

And for an experience you’re sure to discuss on the next date, check out the live poetry events on Sundays at the Lizard Lounge. We promise, this is nothing like the stuff you read in your college lit class.

Beautiful glass flowers, live music, award-winning cocktails, and a simple walk around a reservation—these are our favorite date spots in Cambridge.

Grab brunch at Juliet

One of Somerville’s best new restaurants, Juliet, is an excellent choice for a casual brunch date. Share plates of soft-scrambled eggs and house-baked milk bread, or linger over glasses of unusual mimosas and bellinis (saffron orange and quince, for example).

Take a stroll around Fresh Pond

At Fresh Pond Reservation, sweethearts can escape to nature without ever leaving Cambridge. Enjoy the 2.25 mile loop around the namesake kettle hole lake by bike or by foot, or spend an afternoon at the 9-hole golf course.

Hear live music at The Sinclair

Best known as a live music venue, bring your significant other to The Sinclair for everything from dark electronic pop to high-energy funk. Afterward, elbow up to the bar or the restaurant, which is open late and serves an eclectic mix of pub-inspired fare, like deviled eggs with bacon or mac and cheese with mushroom duxelle.

Listen to poetry at the Lizard Lounge

In addition to a packed calendar of concerts, the subterranean Lizard Lounge hosts a poetry slam every Sunday at 7:30 p.m. After paying a $7 cover, guests can enjoy slam works by a featured poet, accompanied by the jazz stylings of The Jeff Robinson Trio. An open mic night follows.

Order a drink at Cuchi Cuchi

Serving plates meant for sharing, tasting, and swapping is just one reason Cuchi Cuchi on Main Street is an excellent spot for dates. Another reason? The cocktail menu is a true conversation starter, with signature drinks like the HeatOfTheNight (muddled jalapeno, watermelon and lemon juices, citrus vodka, elderflower liqueur) and more familiar vintage cocktails (sazeracs, vespers, and the French 75).

Admire Harvard Museum’s glass flowers

Instead of gifting flowers that will surely fade within a week, take your date to the Harvard Museum of Natural History. In addition to being cheaper than a bouquet (general admission is $12) visitors can check out the famed Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants. Known more eloquently as the “Glass Flowers,” this treasure of 4,000 glass plants was created between 1887 and 1936.
