Drawing: The Invention of a Modern Medium

January 21 - February 24

At the University Research Gallery, a new exhibit explores how drawing was transformed from a personal, often preparatory practice into a modern art form in the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors will move between three sections—Medium, Discourse, and Object—to understand the historical and cultural shifts necessary to elevate drawing from the private sphere into the public eye. Harvard students played a major role in the creation of this show, (their contributions can be seen in the wall labels and heard in audio commentary). Artists like Seurat and Fragonard are featured prominently in the exhibition. For more information, visit the Harvard Art Museums website. Photo courtesy of @harvardartmuseums.
