Montserrat College of Art will be among hundreds of locations across the world hosting the Global Game Jam from Jan. 25th-27th, in which participants will be tasked with creating a game from scratch over the course of a weekend based on a single theme. The event is not a competition but is instead designed to promote collaboration and innovation. Organizers see the game jam as an opportunity to stir a global creative buzz in games, while exploring the process of development in programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. All levels of game developers are welcome from the merely curious to the very experienced. We will be working with and encourage both analog and digital game development (video games to board games to card games etc). We welcome everyone and you don't need to be specifically affiliated with Montserrat College to participate. You don't need to have designed a game before and you don't need to like programming. Various assets and skills are essential like writing, art, animation, sound, and level design. Teams need a mix of people with various backgrounds and experience. You can come to the jam with your team in place or we will help you find a team to work with based on your particular skills and interests. Global Game Jam is the premier annual game creation event that fosters the development of innovative game concepts and promotes international collaboration and teamwork. GGJ brings together thousands of game development enthusiasts participating through many local jams around the world on a single weekend. GGJ has proven itself to be an incubator for creative experiments and new start-ups. Some of the successes have included games being published and exciting collaboration opportunities for participants. The Global Game Jam will bring together participants across over 700 sites on Jan. 25, when a secret theme for the weekend's game will be announced. In January 2018, we had 700 locations in 95 countries crea
