Make the very most of Boston’s colder temperatures but ice skating at these four rinks before shaking off the cold with a warm meal or at the very least, a mug of hot cocoa.
Community Ice Skating at Kendall Square
This outdoor ice skating rink in Kendall Square is maintained by a Zamboni so expect great conditions throughout the winter. The rink is usually open from mid-December through March, but they’re hoping to open the day after Thanksgiving this year. You can rent both ice and hockey skates, sign up for skating lessons, and there is even a snack bar on site.
Paging Michelle Kwan! Harvard Skate on Science Center Plaza has events throughout the winter, including skating lessons and curling matches. Guests can enjoy hot beverages in between skates and even fire pits to warm up. The rink generally opens for the season in January with food trucks and demos from professional ice skaters.
Johnson Athletic Center at MIT
Students and members of the public are welcome to skate at the rink at Johnson Athletic Center during open ice hours throughout the week. Grab your skates or rent a pair at the rink and take advantage of the open ice on Saturdays from 1-5 pm and 7:15-9 pm, and 12:05-12:55 pm, Monday through Thursday.
Simoni Skating Rink
Channel your inner Tara Lipinski and rent skates for just $5 at the indoor Simoni Skating Rink on Gore Street and take advantage of open ice from 2-4 pm, Monday through Friday. The rink also has a snack bar so you won’t have to leave the facility if you get hungry mid-skate.
